chicago asked about a world map in the Shoutbox, so why not put up a thread where we can discuss the world we will 'exist' in? We know that some beasts will reflect real world mythology. Maybe we exist in an AU of Earth where magic exists, or perhaps a completely different world where the beasts are parallel? If there is a world map, will summoners be able to travel? Will there be guild/nation wars, or a system similar to Dominance in Flight Rising? Maybe some areas of the world have better beginning or bonus stats for battling, or appearances for beauty competitions? Perhaps some of the items available in the Item Drop are dependent on summoner's location? Discuss!

I was thinking the world could be based on an alternate universe Earth. We could have an old world map created similar to this: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/15/Old-world-map.jpgFeatures like actually exploring the map, completing map quests, claiming a home, etc won't be implemented for a while. We may have simple point and click locations that lead to other pages of the site (click South America to get items native to there so you can create Quetzalcoatl for example), but nothing too complicated as of now. It would cost a lot of time and money to do that, so it will only happen if we manage to generate a lot of money or have a super successful kickstarter. Despite that, we could still do a lot with the map. We could definitely have guild wars and on the map you can see highlighted areas showing who owns what. If you're a part of the guild with the claimed territory (page) you're in, then bonus exp for you! As mentioned we may eventually have multiple item drop locations too, with area specific items that drop there. If you want an Inugami for example you'd best head over to Japan to find the head and whatever else needed! If you want a thunderbird, head to North America for the items needed. We could add travel limits, wait times, or ticket costs too. Maybe boats only depart every 10-20 mins, so keep yourself busy doing something else until then. Or if you have gold/premium currency, just pay a private captain to get there immediately. The possibilities can be endless without being overly complicated or costly! (: I'd love to hear anyone else's ideas for world lore and features. If you think having Earth as our world would be dull and would rather another world, please do let me know your opinion!

I like the old-timey AU idea! I dig the map too (I'm a sucker for antiquities like that) and I think it kind of fits better overall.
I like the idea that there will be travel with specific items being in specific places, makes it a bit more challenging. Maybe there's only a set number of seats per boat, leaving on hour or half-hour intervals, unless you have premium currency, so you have to be quick about boarding. And then maybe a 24 hour cooldown before you can travel again, unless again, private captain?
Premium and Non-Premium Tickets could be a tradeable commodity, so if you've gotten a ticket beforehand, you are guaranteed a spot on a boat, whereas if not you have to buy a seat sort of thing, if that makes sense?
Are we going to forego some of the limitations due to historic time-frames (such as certain civilizations not existing at the same time) for the sake of all the mythology existing together? Personally, I find that preferable, so we have a much wider range of beasts at our disposal. I think so long as their origins and cultural natures are maintained, people probably won't complain unless they're big-time history buffs. xD

So, I've been thinking about the Item Drop. I feel like, if we're going to have a lore, the Item Drop itself doesn't quite fit into anything or any one cultural mythos or whatever, so why don't we collectively develop a 'Core Lore' and make it fit? xD For instance, while I was watching all the items drop, on my regular hunt for tentacles... I was trying to figure out some story elements that would justify the Item Drop existing. I'll list some of my ideas below, and maybe everyone else can pitch in ideas and we collectively refine until the damn Item Drop makes sense. Here are some of my ideas: - There's a central group of mages or wizards or magi or magistrates, whatever you want to call them, and they're essentially very powerful individuals that hail from different areas of the world, maybe one each representing all the major cultural contributors to the game's mythologies. These individuals could also be representations of the staff members, for a bit of write-in service.
- They collectively agree to use their combined summoning skills to create a Fountain of Wealth or something akin to that, either for the benefit of all mankind, or to be greedy asshats, take your pick anywhere on the spectrum. xD
- Something goes awry, maybe someone misreads an incantation or includes the wrong components or something, and while all the mages (or whatever) are summoning or creating this Font, instead of it being a source of great wealth, it is instead this fountain of random items.
- Or maybe, it turns out to be a fountain of wealth, in that it provides some of the resources for creating the means to our fortunes, but isn't a direct source of wealth.
- Another idea is that the staff-mages discover it, or that maybe demi-god (or full god, if that's ever going to be a summon option) summon created it as a reward for thwarting some great evil or something.
- Maybe the Item Drop isn't a fountain or magical waterfall of items, but a vortex to some pocket dimension of... stuff? Or perhaps, it wasn't a fountain the mages were trying to create, but a portal to a lair of wealth, and then they end up with this everlasting vortex where onions and mushrooms and tentacles randomly appear to be snatched.
- Personally, I kind of picture the Item Drop as having this somewhat ethereal opening at the 'top' at a certain height, and items randomly appear and slowly rain down, into this likewise somewhat intangible 'pit' where they disappear. Kind of like the portals from the Portal series, if that makes any sense.
Anyway, that's some stuff that I mulled over. If it doesn't make much sense, I apologize, it's after 5 AM, I've been up all night, and my brain isn't firing all the pistons (PS. please forgive any typos and errors!). I tend to think up really random and weird stuff in this state. xD Yay, insomnia! \o/
Let me know what you think!

Ooohh I like your ideas! Mine is lame/unoriginal luls. I was thinking the Item Drop is this arcane magical waterfall (but magics instead of water) type thing that the gods created because there was a scarcity of resources and/or they wanted to create a utopia for their human children. It would also tie into beast summoning. The gods wanted their children to be able to summon beasts to aide them (and not just eat them), but the materials for summoning powerful beasts is so rare and located in different parts of the world that your average everyday person would never be able to do it, so by creating the item drop, the rare materials are able to be collected by anyone in one centralized location. None of this was ever set in stone though, just my little idea haha! I like how your vision of the item drop is like a portal at the top and a "void" at the bottom. I really like that, I think we will go with it! Plus I really want to rename the item drop to something cooler so maybe "Portal" or something can be used idk.

It would be cool and kinda dark if there was lore of someone falling into the void at the bottom of the waterfall .
Having the waterfall out of greed is an interesting, realistic and original motivation! What if we're all thieves, and that's why we have to be careful with how much we take at a time?
