I figured it might be a good idea to get a thread off the ground dedicated to beast suggestions for the game! This could be a good way for us to collect beast mythology from all around the globe. C: If possible, please include some lore/background mythology and some cultural context (since a lot of mythology stems from some sort of cultural influence), maybe some images or in the least links (Wikipedia articles, for instance). If related to a specific book (about monsters or mythology, for example), please provide title and author(s)! If you'd like, you can include a suggested rarity!
I've got one! Beast Name: Surma (pr. "soor-mah," trill on the 'r') Country of Origin: Finland Description: ( fr. Wikipedia) "Surma is a character in the Finnish folklore of Kalevala. Surma is a terrible beast, embodies sudden, violent death and guards the gates of the Tuonela to prevent escape. It is often described as being a large dog with a snake-tail and can turn people into stone (with a stare)." Suggested Rarity: Legendary (My reasoning for this is because Surma is an individual in the mythos, akin to Medusa in her respective mythology.) (I've got a few editions of the Kalevala, so I'll go see if I can find something more specific in the mythology, and hopefully some art relating to it.) And another: Beast Name: Barghest Country of Origin: England Description: ( fr. Wikipedia) Usually a monstrous black dog, with large teeth and claws. Often depicted with fiery eyes, and sometimes shapeshifts or is invisible. Cultural Context: Considered a bad omen or one of death. Thought to precede a death, or follow one, as a herald. Suggested Rarity: Uncommon

Magdalena, oohh interesting! I have quite a few of the more commonly heard-of beasts I'll be adding hopefully soonish. We will have a new beast or two released every few months, so this thread is perfect for those wanting to see their faves! I encourage users to vote on which ones they'd like to see most. (: I take it once we release the anticipated "skins" feature, we can also have a thread for that too. (x

I also have one which you most likely have heard of already.
Beast Name: Tsukumogami Country of Origin: Japan Description: Basically, once any inanimate object reaches 100 years of age, it can gain a spirit and become alive. They tend to be household stuff, but honestly anything goes. If the object is wronged in some way shape or form, it can bypass the 100-year thing and gain a yokai. While they're mostly docile , they have a capacity for anger and revenge. Proposed Rarity: Depends on what base object is being used. Household tools and items would be common. Vehicles like airplanes or locomotives could be rare.

chicago, I'd actually never heard of Tsukumogami until you mentioned them. Pretty interesting! I can think of some creative ways we could have them on site too. (:

Beast Name: Ala(Ale), or Hala(Hali) Country of Origin: Russia, and surrounding countries Description: Hali are female demons of bad weather, mostly bringing hail storms to demolish crops and fields. They're very hungry, and prefer to eat children, but sometimes go after the Sun and Moon(causing eclipses). If they are befriended by a human they can offer protection and riches, but must be treated with respect and trust. It's disputed on what they look like exactly though, as some just describe them as black wind and others describe them as vaguely humanoid. They can also be depicted as ravens, serpents, or dragons. My favorite way to imagine them is kind of half-raven half-woman, with pale features and a swirling dark mist around them - a garish mix of bird and person that doesn't look quite right. Suggested Rarity: Common, or uncommon as bad weather isn't exactly rare (Oh, here's a link to their wiki page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ala_(demon) )

coleus interesting beastie! I really like the description of appearance you've given. Ravens are one of my fave animals, so a raven x human would look awesome!

Hell yes, make all the corvid monsters! \o/ The little grumpy owl on the gamesite's main page always makes me think of an owlbear from D&D. I'm not sure if that counts as copywritten, and thus unusable, but I'll drop some info on it anyway, because I can't stop thinking about owlbears now. x3 Beast Name: Owlbear Country of Origin: US technically? Dungeons and Dragons RPG Description: A wizard was mucking about and combined an owl and a bear, and now there are owlbears. Suggested Rarity: Common, or maybe uncommon? Links: Here, here, and here!
Doesn't he look like fun?

Magdalena, owlbears are awesome! We have slimes, which I don't believe were ever actually apart of any real myths. I think slimes were actually even created originally for D&D, but they spread everywhere. So yea, maybe we'll have owl bears one day! (:

Imho, cerebus shouldn't be legendary. I mean, in greek myths there's only one, but three-headed dogs could be a thing, just smaller than Hades'.

@lavie Ah cool! Yeah I thought so with some of those, but I still added them because I couldn't be a 100% sure if you were going to add them already or not ;D Tried to add in some common suggestions in there too but I find it rather hard to think of anything that's common xD chicago Ah probably! It could be rare, perhaps?

Got some more critters to suggest! Also, for vampires they come from Northern Europe(primarily Russia) their myth derives from Vlad the Impaler and other Slavic leaders - who would drink/bathe in the blood of the executed. I think werewolves come from the same areas, though I've never like them much so who knows? Chimeras also come from greek mythology primarily, but I think there's forms of them in lots of myths. Fauns and Centaurs are also greek/roman(the two are interchangeable when it comes to mythology). And then mermaids! Gosh I love these nerds. Ok so the common mermaid is actually from European sailors who saw manatees when they sailed to florida, and thought they were beautiful sirens! If you've ever seen a manatee you know how ridiculous this is. So they don't really have a country, but if we had to say one I would say North America/the USA. And yes, Medusa comes from greek mythology - she was actually very beautiful! Beast name: Harpy Country of origin: Greece Description: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpy - give me all the bird ladies pls Suggested rarity: Common Beast name: Bagiennik Country of origin: Slavic areas Description: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagiennik - i like to think of these odd balls as drippy looking and vaguely gelatinous in nature, kind of like living mudballs with faces. They're sillies tbh. Suggested rarity: Uncommon Beast name: Boginki Country of origin: Slavic areas Description: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boginki , they're basically changelings - I like to think they're a lot prettier though. Suggested rarity: Uncommon Beast name: Domovoi Country of origin: Slavic Description: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domovoi - just little household spirits who look like tiny old men, sometimes they've got tails n horns. Can get aggressive and vindictive if they household doesn't take care of it. Suggested rarity: VERY Common Beast name: Kikimora Country of origin: Slavic Description: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kikimora - [forest kind] wife of the Domovoi, are significantly more aggressive and "bad"(used to explain sleep paralysis, which if you've had you'll know what I mean by "bad") I think that they probably just look like demons but there's a cute pic on their wiki page too. [swamp kind] wife of the Leshiye, same as forest kind except they have little wet footprints. Suggested rarity: forest kind - uncommon, swamp kind - rare Beast name: Leshy Country of origin: Slavic Description: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leshy - temperamental, and shape-shifty, they're vaguely masculine and sometimes abduct people. I imagine they look kind of like gnarled trees. Suggested rarity: Rare Beast name: German (yeah, I know it's odd) Country of origin: Slavic(not germany lol) Description: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_(mythology) , another cute little rain spirit! If he does get added I think that it's very important that summoning him requires a doll, as thats very important in summoning him irl. There's a couple of ways to summon him, I think they would make for interesting items to have to obtain to make him. I imagine him as similar to the Ala, a little bird guy who brings rain. German and Ala are my absolute favorite creatures. <3 Suggested rarity: Rare/Legendary Beast name: Polevik Country of origin: Slavic Description: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polevik - little dwarfish field spirits that appear at noon/sunset, have grass for hair and oddly colored eyes. they either wear all white, or all black. Suggested rarity: Common And I'll save the rest of my list for later. I absolutely love Slavic myths! Be prepared for more. >:3c

Yay! Slavic creatures are my fave. I would've added Rarogs, but they're very similar to phoenixes.
Speaking of Slavic countries, I wonder if the two-headed black eagle and the white eagle on Russia's and Poland's flags respectively are based in any myths. They could certainly be alt colorations to harpies or other bird beasts.
